Emilé Clement Champagne Cuvée Privilége, Vintage: non-vintage
Winespoint rating: 79
Tasted: 01/2013
This wine was a bargain. Not often you can find a champagne for EUR 11.50,- right? So how did it go? Well,…
Light yellow colour yet with a luscious and delicate moose. The color remains to be okay, did not expect more. On the nose I am a bit disappointed. I cannot find the typical champagne aromas of bread, brioche that one searches for in a standard champagne. Who knows, maybe the taste will do it. Let me try. Nope! What an error. If you tried to persuade somebody that this wine is a champagne you would immediately switch to a donkey. Well, maybe more time will help it. I try again. All I get now is a taste of a 3-4 euro sparkling wine that can be produced anywhere between Tasmania and Scotland. What a waste of money so far… I do strongly doubt this wine can evolve into something else than what is already is (not).
My advice is not to approach this buddy! Rather spend it on any Aussie cheap chardonnay that will deliver on expectations or come even close to them. Frankly, I can hardly believe this wine comes from Champagne region. But what can you do… I could not resist.
Brief characteristics: clear pale lemony look, clean medium youthful nose, dry palate with medium acidity and dry body with light flavor intensity and rather short finish.
