Chardonnay, 2005, Petaluma, Piccadilly Valley, Australia
Winespoint rating: 91+/100
Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay consistently reaches scores starting at 90 points. It is one of the chardonnays that if you like French ones particularly from Cote d’Or region you would be surprised how this one resembles to them. Although it is a new world wine it offers the balance you get from the old one world. The 2005 season was 10% cooler compared to previous vintages and over 30 years old vineyards produced a great wine again. On the nose you get pear, nectarines, chalk and butter with vanilla finished up with glints of ripe banana peel that linger. On the sip dry, balanced, rounded and very drinkable (you just want to chew it all at once). The desire to pour more into glass rises after every sip as one is keen to explore more and more the present flavors.
This wine is hard to get outside of Australia but if you have the opportunity don’t hesitate and grab it for you right away. I am sure you will be very satisfied.
Petaluma Chardonnay is a great, lightly oaked chardonnay with full body resembling wines from Burgundy.
